Why My Running Playlist Is a Concert (And Why Yours Should Be Too!)

Do you spend way too much time making the perfect Spotify playlist for races or long training runs?

Same.

A lot of runners build playlists based on BPM, tempo, and what science says will make you run faster. But my running playlists? They’re built on one simple rule:

If I love the song, it makes the cut!

My everyday running playlist is a chaotic, wildly unhinged mix of songs I never skip. Songs I sing out loud to. Songs I dance to while running down the road. Songs that turn a long run into a full-blown concert with me as the main act!

On long runs, I’m not just logging miles, I’m headlining a world tour!

The Secret to Staying Motivated on Long Runs (It’s Not Just Discipline)

One of the most common questions I get is:

“How do you stay motivated on long runs?”

My answer is always the same:

Music.

Certain songs. Certain lyrics. Certain moments that hit exactly when you need them.

Like when Hannah Montana comes on at mile 15 of a 20-mile run and belts:

“Who said, who said I can’t be Superman? I say, I say that I know I can.”

Tell me that’s not elite marathon motivation!!

Or when David Guetta’s Just One Last Time hits and you hear:

“Even though it hurts, I can’t slow down.”

That’s not just a lyric, that’s a race strategy. This came on at mile 12 of my first half marathon and I truly believe helped me get to the finish line faster.

And when Taylor Swift reminds me:

“I’m a real tough kid, I can handle my sht.”*

Yes. Yes, I am. I’m training for a marathon. I am a tough kid!!!

Music doesn’t just distract me. It is the basis of my run. It turns discomfort into momentum and exhaustion into energy. One song can completely change how a mile feels.

Final Thoughts: Run to What You Love

Your running playlist doesn’t need to be perfectly curated, scientifically optimized, or approved by running TikTok.

It just needs to make you feel something.

If that means Disney bangers at mile 18, emo anthems during tempo runs, or Taylor Swift screaming in your ears while you convince yourself you can do hard things then you lean right into it.

Because if I’m going to suffer through a long run, I might as well do it with a soundtrack worthy of a standing ovation.

Best Running Gels for Marathon Training: What Worked (and Didn’t) for Me

When I trained for my   first half marathon , my fueling strategy was simple: water. That was it. I remember hearing runners talk about taking gels during runs and honestly having no idea what they meant. I was able to run 10, 11, even 12 miles with only water, so I figured I would be fine, and technically, I was... But after every Saturday long run, my legs were completely exhausted. Heavy, sore, and slow to recover. At the time, I didn’t realize that the missing piece was  proper mid-run fueling . How I Learned the Importance of Fueling During Long Runs When I started training for my  first full marathon , I kept hearing the same advice: If you want strong legs and steady energy through 26.2 miles, you need to fuel with carbs during your runs. That’s when I finally started experimenting with running gels. Once I began taking gels during long runs, I immediately noticed the benefits: More consistent energy Stronger legs late in runs Faster recovery after long miles Fueli...

Why I Use the Runna App for Marathon Training (and Why It Actually Works When Used Correctly!)

Recently, there’s been a lot of online criticism aimed at running influencers who get injured, with much of the blame being placed on the Runna app. Many influencers are sponsored by Runna, so you often see them posting workouts, racing frequently, and unfortunately, sometimes dealing with injuries. But here’s the thing: running injuries are rarely caused by a single factor  and it’s not fair to blame an app. There are countless reasons runners get injured: increasing weekly mileage too quickly, skipping strength training, inadequate fueling, poor recovery, life stress, or running every run too hard. Placing all the responsibility on an AI training app oversimplifies a much more complex issue. I know this firsthand. During my first marathon training block, I developed IT band syndrome, and I wasn’t using any AI running app at all. I got injured because I ramped up my mileage too fast, didn’t strength train and ran nearly every run at a hard pace. Ironically, since I started us...

The Best Running Biker Shorts for Thick Thighs (No Ride Up, No Chafing)

I am a huge fan of biker shorts for running. If you have thicker thighs like me, you already know the struggle. Those cute, flowy running shorts? They might look great, but for me they lead to unimaginable chafing — no matter how much anti-chafe lotion I apply. After one too many painful runs, I made it my mission to find biker shorts that could actually survive long training blocks. Shorts that don’t ride up. Shorts that don’t cause chafing. Shorts that can carry you through marathon training. And most importantly — shorts that are affordable enough to buy in multiple colors without burning a hole in your wallet. If you’re part of the thicker thigh club, this list is for you. 🥇 My Top Pick: Colorfulkoala 6” Inseam Biker Shorts My number one go-to pair is the Colorfulkoala 6-inch inseam biker short . I own multiple pairs, and they are truly my favorite running shorts. They do not ride up. Not on short runs. Not on long runs. Not during speed work. They stay put! Why I love them: The 6...
